V-Day
Global Address:
New York,
United States
Description:
V-Day is a global activist movement working to end violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM), and sex slavery. They create global awareness and raise funds through a variety of media outlets, while collaborating with local women and grassroots organizations to help build anti-violence networks all over the world. V-Day has a variety of campaigns that they are constantly working on. Currently they are working on the One Billion Rising campaign, which is bringing people all over the world together on Valentine’s Day to acknowledge the violence that takes place against women worldwide. They say, “V-Day dreams of a world in which women and girls will be free to thrive, rather than merely survive,” and they are on the path to making that vision a reality.
Mission Statement: V-Day’s mission is to end violence against women and girls worldwide.
Our Connection:
Mission Grant. The Skees Family Foundation has been supporting V-Day since 2005. In 2006, we worked with V-Day to create V-Peace scholarships, a scholarship program designed to support survivors of domestic and military violence in high school, college, and vocational studies. The recipients of these scholarships are dedicated to stopping violence against women in their own community and globally. V-Peace scholarships have supported nearly 5,000 refugees and survivors in the U.S. and Canada, as well as 9 other countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Check out why this growing group of visionary women and men inspired us to establish educational scholarships to really change the outcome for survivors of violence.
