The Catholic Committee of Appalachia works to establish community and solidarity, Catholic social teaching, educational programs, spirituality, and participation in order to promote social, economic, and ecological justice in Appalachia. They have addressed many issues since their creation in 1970, including mountaintop removal, labor, private prison development, sustainable lifestyles and communities, poverty, health, clean water, racism, and climate change. Additionally, they run annual retreats and Cherokee spiritual seminars.
Mission Statement: CCA is a faith-based network of people raising a prophetic voice for Appalachia and her people.
Our Connection:
Board Discretionary Grant. The Skees Family Foundation began working with the Catholic Committee of Appalachia in 2013. Our grant was directed toward educational and spiritual programs throughout Appalachia.
