Teach North Korean Refugees (TNKR) is a non-profit that works in South Korea, teaching North Korean refugees, with a primary focus on English. They teach basic English and business English, depending on the interest of the student. All of the tutors are volunteers, and most classes are taught one-on-one. Their goal is to help refugees find the resources they need to improve academically and professionally.
Mission Statement: Teach North Korean Refugees empowers North Korean refugees to find their own voice and path through education, advocacy, and support.
Our Connection:
Board Discretionary Grant. The Skees Family Foundation began working with TNKR in 2015. We wanted to opportunity to work in this region, and we think that helping refugees find a place in society through education and job preparation is an admirable and sustainable approach.
